Sermon Summary: Today is the third Sunday of Advent. Advent means “coming”. During the Advent season, we celebrate the coming of Jesus into the world nearly 2000 years ago. Last Sunday, we looked at Luke 1:26-38 where the angel, Gabriel, was sent ot Mary and he announced to her that she would give birth to Jesus. Today’s passage, Matthew 1:18-25, tells of an angel bisiting Joseph to tell him to take Mary as his wife. Both passages highlight the Virgin Birth. There are trhee reason why the Virgin Birth was necessary…

  1. The Virgin Birth means that God came to us on his own terms.
  2. The Virgin Birth means that full humanity and full deity were united in one person.
  3. The Virgin Birth means that salvation comes from the Lord.
